Disabled passengers

Prerequisite for claiming travel discounts

Passengers resident in Switzerland aged 6 and over with a disability who, according to a "medical certificate", are dependent on an accompanying person and/or a guide/assistance dog when traveling, can claim the travel discount for passengers with a disability (Companion Travelcard). The passenger with a disability or the accompanying person must be in possession of a valid paid ticket. You can find more information on this in the national fare T600, section 10 (available only in German).

You can find more information under Companion travelcard.

Disabled passengers without an accompanying person can obtain their tickets by calling the toll-free number 0800 007 102. No physical ticket is issued for the journey itself, but the passenger must have the "Disabled Passenger's ID Card" (Companion Travelcard).

Information for people with reduced mobility

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) stipulates that travelers with disabilities should be able to use public transport independently. From 1.1.2024, a barrier-free travel chain should be possible. If this is not the case, travelers are entitled to alternative transport.

BVB
For stops that are not wheelchair-accessible and where the use of the vehicle folding ramp is not possible, alternative solutions will be available from 1.1.2024 to ensure the accessibility of wheelchair-accessible stops for passengers with reduced mobility. On the one hand, a shuttle service will be offered at affected stops with 2 hours' advance notice; on the other hand, information on alternative stops can be found on the posted timetables. Further details and information on the stops can be found at www.bvb.ch.

BLT
BLT buses and streetcars have free parking spaces around at least one low-floor door. This door is marked with a wheelchair symbol.
All BLT streetcar compositions have at least one low-floor section. Spontaneous travelers can rest assured that, with the exception of operational disruptions, every journey will be made with a low-floor vehicle. This applies until late in the evening. At stops that have not yet been converted in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), the streetcar driver will use a folding wheelchair ramp for barrier-free boarding and alighting.
All BLT buses have a "kneeling", a lowerable carriage floor, and a wheelchair ramp. Please signal to the driver if you need help boarding the bus. We will be happy to assist you. In accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act, many stops have already been converted so that they can be used without steps or obstacles.

Wheelchairs (hand and power wheelchairs) are transported free of charge on the TNW if the user is traveling with them and safety is guaranteed.
